Smart has brought out a new car, the Smart ForTwo CDI. You can read about it on the Autocar website here.

    1. “So what?”, I hear you say

.

Well, its CO2 rating is 88g/km and its combined cycle fuel consumption is 85.6mpg, much better than the highly-publicised hybrid cars that are exempt from paying the London congestion charge. Ideal for city driving, you would have thought.

Unfortunately, there are a couple of ‘small’ problems:

The Smart isn’t exempt from congestion charge; it will still cost you 8 quid a day to bring it into town. You would have thought that if Mayor Ken were serious in his assertion that the congestion charge is all about the environmental, he would have exempted this, and other highly efficient small diesels too. It would nice to have some “carrot” to balance out the “stick”

Smart aren’t planning to import them into the UK!

Hey ho! More lost opportunities.
